I research space policy and astrobiology. In addition to scientific dissemination work, I also get involved in initiatives to raise awareness and defend the Amazon. I participate in conferences and debates on the balance between space exploration and environmental preservation, seeking sustainable and responsible solutions.

NASA Astrobiology Creative Science Writing

The article by Flora Dutra, a researcher at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, was placed first in a contest by the American Aerospace Agency (National Aeronautics and Space Administration – NASA). Research addressing the impacts of space missions on humanity was featured at #AbSciCon22, an Astrobiology conference organized by Advancing Earth and Space Science and recognized by NASA. Flora Dutra was the only Brazilian, this year, to be awarded at the Nasa Astrobiology congress, an arm of the American Space Agency that deals with the search for life in the universe. The award took place through the article Astrobiological Humanities Group for Interplanetary Protection and Defense Policies.

To start the discussion on the role of space researchers and their responsibilities with the Planetary Protection and Defense Policies, we must cover other celestial bodies, which is why they must be thought within an interplanetary context in the Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey 2023-2032.

Today I am the CEO of the startup NAVI Global, which works to strengthen indigenous sovereignty in multiple spheres. I currently dedicate my field work and area of expertise in remote regions of the Amazon, mainly in border spaces between countries like Colombia, Venezuela and Peru, bringing satellite connectivity to communities that are difficult to access.

NAVI Global, a startup dedicated to bringing technology and connectivity to remote areas, identified the pressing need for internet access in the Javari Valley. Based on this mission, Flora Dutra and Ricardo Birenbaum launched the pioneering NAVI ON project to provide reliable connectivity to indigenous communities through Starlink technology, developed by SpaceX.
